Recommendation for the reappointment of Don Eaton to the San Mateo County Civil Service Commission for a term ending December 31, 2022.

BACKGROUND:
The Civil Service Commission consists of five members appointed by the Board of Supervisors with one member from each supervisorial district. Traditionally, each member of the Board of Supervisors has selected the Commissioner from his or her supervisorial district, subject to the approval of the entire Board of Supervisors.
DISCUSSION:
Mr. Eaton has served on the Civil Service Commission since June 2012 and wishes to be reappointed. Don Eaton is a longtime resident of San Carlos, which is within the Third District boundary. He is a retired Mortgage Banker. Don Eaton also has extensive experience as an appointed and elected public official in the City of San Carlos. He served on the San Carlos Planning Commission and on the City Council, where he served as Mayor. He is a Vietnam Veteran and brought a traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial to San Carlos. He has extensive community activity in a variety of avenues, including the founding San Carlos Week of the Family involvement with the Boy Scouts and on the “Dads Count” committee.
This reappointment contributes to the 2025 Shared Vision statement of a Collaborative Community. Our diverse population works well together to build strong communities, effective government and a prosperous economy. Civic engagement through voting, public service, charitable giving, volunteerism and participation in public discussions of important issues is uniformly high among the diverse population of San Mateo County.
