BACKGROUND:
Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) has contracted with MAR-RIC Transitional and Recovery Facility (MAR-RIC) since February 2002. MAR-RIC provides transitional residential services to individuals who (1) are transitioning from locked facilities or psychiatric inpatient units to a lower level of care, or (2) would otherwise require locked facility placement.

Casa de Luz operates a board and care (B&C) facility for difficult-to-place clients and provides augmented services for seriously mentally ill clients who require a higher level of supervision and services. Examples of these higher-level services include intensive mental health services, social skills training, and assistance with daily living activities.

DISCUSSION:
Under this agreement, services for MAR-RIC and Casa de Luz will be integrated under their parent company, Andrade, Inc. MAR-RIC and Casa de Luz shall continue to provide up to eight (8) beds per month for individuals who are transitioning from locked facilities or psychiatric inpatient units or individuals who would otherwise require locked facility placement. Services through this agreement offer an alternative for clients to remain in the community and out of a more restrictive and more expensive locked facility placement.
