BACKGROUND:

San Mateo County Parks Foundation: The San Mateo County Parks Foundation (“Parks Foundation”) was established to provide additional financial support for the recreational, environmental, and educational programs and projects of the San Mateo County Parks Department (“Department”).

 

The Friends of Huddart and Wunderlich Parks: The Friends of Huddart and Wunderlich Parks (“The Friends”) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the local environment and historic legacies of both Huddart Park and Wunderlich Park. The Friends are a combination of volunteers, donors, paid staff, and board members that collaborate with Department staff to preserve and protect the resources found at Huddart Park and Wunderlich Park.

 

Woodside Community Foundation: The Woodside Community Foundation (“Community Foundation”) is a local non-profit organization that administers charitable funds established through gifts and bequests from individuals, families, businesses, and other organizations. The Community Foundation makes periodic grants to special projects that benefit the citizens of Woodside and the surrounding area.

 

Woodside Trail Club: The Woodside Trail Club (“Trail Club”) is a private equestrian organization that provides charitable contributions for equestrian causes.

 

Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County: The Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County (“Mounted Patrol”) is an equestrian organization that provides search and rescue volunteer services and donations to the Department for the benefit of several County parks, including Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve, Huddart Park, Wunderlich Park, Pescadero Creek County Park, Sam McDonald Park, and San Pedro Valley Park.

Parks Foundation

In FY 2024-25, the Parks Foundation provided the Department with in-kind donations totaling $130,386 and direct cash donations totaling $249,447 for various projects, programs, and events. The tables below reflect cost estimates of each project, program, and event. Actual funding allocations may vary upon completion of the project, program, or event.

The Friends of Huddart and Wunderlich Parks

The Department received $35,000 from The Friends for improvements to the Wunderlich Park ranger residence.

 

Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County, Woodside Community Foundation, and Woodside Trail Club

The Department received $14,194.48 from the Mounted Patrol, $5,000 from the Community Foundation, and $5,000 from the Trail Club for the Huddart Park Greer Road Bridge Replacement Project.

 

The County Attorney’s Office has reviewed and approved the resolutions as to form.

 

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

Donations received will be utilized for their intended purposes and ultimately help conserve and improve the quality of County parks for current and future generations to enjoy.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

An Appropriation Transfer Request is being requested to recognize unanticipated revenue from all cash donations received in FY 2024-25 in the amount of $308,642 (rounded up to the nearest dollar). There is no impact on Net County Cost.
