RECOMMENDATION:

title

Recommendation for the appointment of Patricia McCombs to the Measure K Oversight Committee, representing District 4, for an initial full term ending June 30, 2029.

body

BACKGROUND:

The Measure K Oversight Committee was established following the voters’ approval of the Measure A sales tax in 2012 to conduct an annual audit of the Measure A sales tax funds to ensure transparency of the Board of Supervisors approved expenditures. The name of the oversight committee has thus been changed to reflect the passage of Measure K in 2016, which extended the sales tax until 2043.

On February 26, 2019, the Board of Supervisors, upon the recommendation of the Measure K Oversight Committee, adopted a resolution authorizing an increase in term length of up to four years (or a maximum of twelve years) and staggering the terms of service such that the terms of members do not all expire in the same year.

DISCUSSION:

Patricia McCombs is being recommended to represent District 4 (Supervisor Lisa Gauthier) for an initial term ending June 30, 2029, a seat formerly held by Manuel Ramirez whose term ended June 30, 2025 after serving a maximum number of  dedicated years representing District 4, by the recommendation of former Supervisor Warren Slocum.

Patricia McCombs is a resident of North Fair Oaks in District 4. Before moving to District 4, she lived in Minnesota, where she worked as a certified public accountant. While there, she chaired several committees at both the local and national levels, including the Minnesota Board of Accountants and the Personal Financial Planning Committee at the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants. In addition to her work in accounting, Patricia was elected to the South Washington County School Board, where she helped lead efforts to build new schools and successfully pass local education funding measures. She also volunteered with Minnesota’s Eighth Democratic Congressional District.

Patricia is a proud grandmother of two. She currently volunteers in the Redwood City School District, where her grandchildren attend, and supports the arts as a volunteer at TheatreWorks at the Lucie Stern Theatre in Palo Alto.

FISCAL IMPACT:
