Subject: Board of Supervisors’ Meeting Schedule for Calendar Year 2027
RECOMMENDATION:
title
Adopt a resolution approving the Board of Supervisors' regular meeting schedule for calendar year 2027.
body
BACKGROUND:
The Board of Supervisors adopts its regular meeting schedule annually, in accordance with Government Code § 54954(a). The proposed schedule below includes regular Board meeting dates from January through December 2027. This schedule allows for 23 regularly scheduled board meetings that take place over a total of 46 days throughout 2027. The meetings are currently scheduled to be held in the Board Chambers at 500 County Center in Redwood City.
There is a change in format in the proposed schedule for the 2027 calendar year, made at the request of Vice President Mueller. Except as otherwise indicated below in the proposed schedule, regular Board meetings will take place over two consecutive days (typically Monday and Tuesday). Specifically, regular Board meetings will commence on designated Mondays at 1:00 p.m., and after the agendized business for that day is completed, the Board will adjourn the meeting and reconvene the meeting the following day at 9:00am (on Tuesday) to complete the business agendized for that day. A copy of the order or notice of adjournment shall be conspicuously posted on or near the door of the place where the regular, adjourned regular, special or adjourned special meeting was held within 24 hours after the time of the adjournment, as applicable.
Typically, business agendized for the Monday portion of Board meetings will include public comment on all agenda items, ceremonial presentations/awards, setting the agenda, and consent items. The business agendized for the Tuesday portion of Board meetings will include the remaining regular agenda items, study sessions and closed session items. Public comment on regular agenda items that include a public hearing will be taken at the time the item is called.
Even though board meetings will take place over two consecutive days (i.e., Monday and Tuesday), they will each be a single Board meeting. Having the meetings take place over a two-day span will allow more time for consideration of agenda items. Additionally, the two-day span will allow the Board of Supervisors to consider any questions raised in public comment on Monday, prior to the Tuesday portion of the meeting. Finally, once the regular agenda is set during Monday's meeting, professional staff and presenters will be notified whether their items will be discussed by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, saving valuable staff time.
