body
BACKGROUND:
Flying Food Group is a catering company that provides in-flight meals and related services to airlines operating at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), a major transportation hub located within San Mateo County. The company employs members of Teamsters Local 2785 as truck drivers and helpers, who play an essential role in ensuring the timely and safe delivery of food and supplies to airline clients.
Since early April, these workers have been on strike due to stalled contract negotiations over key issues including economic security and affordable health care benefits. The workers report that Flying Food Group has failed to offer adequate compensation and has not engaged in good faith bargaining efforts, contributing to the prolonged nature of the labor dispute.
San Mateo County has a longstanding commitment to fair labor practices and the protection of workers’ rights. The County recognizes that labor peace and equitable working conditions are essential not only for worker wellbeing but also for the safe and efficient operation of critical infrastructure, including airports.
DISCUSSION:
By adopting this Resolution, the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County affirms its recognition of the essential work performed by Teamsters Local 2785 members and its support for their right to negotiate fair wages and benefits. The Resolution further urges both parties to return to the bargaining table in good faith, and to seek a resolution that upholds the dignity and economic security of these workers. Supporting the rights of these workers aligns with the County’s values of fairness, economic justice, and respect for those who serve vital public and commercial functions within our region.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
