Recommendation for reappointments to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) Commission, each for a term ending June 30, 2026:

 

A)                     Chris Sturken, for a first full term; and

 

B)                     Aaron Adriano, for a first full term; and

 

C)                     Bismay Mishra, for a second term.

BACKGROUND:

The Commission reports and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors regarding policies, programs, procedures and legislation affecting LGBTQ individuals in San Mateo County, and provides outreach and support to at-risk and underserved LGBTQ populations within San Mateo County, including youth, communities of color, non-English speakers, older adults, and immigrants. The Commission promotes transgender inclusion among private and public entities in San Mateo County, including access to health care and to gendered spaces such as bathrooms and shelters. It develops initiatives to support LGBTQ families with children in San Mateo County and provides a public forum for input from the LGBTQ community to identify unmet needs.

 

DISCUSSION:

Chris Sturken and Aaron Adriano each began serving partial terms in October 2020 and November 2022 respectively. Upon approval of this reappointment, they are each being recommended to serve for a first full term. Bismay Mishra was initially appointed in August 2020 and is being recommended to serve a second term.

 

Chris Sturken is currently the Community and Corporate Partnerships Manager at Sacred Heart Community Service and has previously worked for HIP Housing, HEART and Committee for Green Foothills. He volunteers with One San Mateo and helped found the San Mateo County Stonewall Democratic Club. He is city council member for Redwood City and he lives in Redwood City.

 

Aaron Adriano is currently a student at Stanford University and has lived in Daly City all of their life. They serve South San Francisco’s Youth Commission and has served as the Commission’s Vice Chair.  They also have interned at the San Mateo County Pride Center and currently is part of Stanford’s Queer and Asian Club. They live in Daly City.

 

Bismay Mishra is the lead for Gilead Sciences’ HIV Global Analytics & Insights division. He also serves on the Board of Maitri San Francisco and volunteers for local LGBTQ events when he has the opportunity. Bismay lives in Redwood City with his partner.
