Subject: Acceptance of Grant Funds by the County of San Mateo from the Board of Trustees of Leland Stanford Junior University to Develop a School Readiness Program
RECOMMENDATION:
title
Adopt a resolution authorizing the acceptance of grant funds by the County of San Mateo from the Board of Trustees of Leland Stanford Junior University to develop a school readiness program for the term April 15, 2020 through April 15, 2021, in an amount not to exceed $117,000.
body
BACKGROUND:
The Board of Trustees of Leland Stanford Junior University (Sandford) has expressed interest in funding the San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) in developing two school readiness programs.
DISCUSSION:
This project will integrate evidence-based readiness interventions to increase the proportion of 3- to 5-year-old students who are ready to start kindergarten. The first intervention will provide coaching and a school readiness assessment. The second intervention will be Tips by Text. This agreement is going to the Board late due to late notification from Stanford for such requested services.
The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form.
The resolution contains the County’s standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).
It is anticipated that SMMC will evaluate 100% of the students (ages 3-5) for school readiness by measuring their success in the developed programs.
