Adopt a resolution acknowledging donations from community partners for events in the aggregate amount of $33,434.

body

BACKGROUND:

The County of San Mateo may from time to time receive donations from community partners to support County projects, initiatives, and events.  Past donations have supported, among other things, development of the Navigation Center, the Stone Pine Cove Affordable Farmworker Housing Project, Disaster Preparedness Day, the Working Together to End Homelessness Summit, and various local arts initiatives.

On December 11, 2024, the County and the San Mateo County Event Center hosted an event honoring retiring County Supervisors Warren Slocum and Dave Pine.  Event costs included food, refreshments, and other goods and services necessary to make the event a success.  Costs were covered by donations to the San Mateo County Event Center, who also made in kind contributions. The County provided space at 500 County Center for the event.

On May 15, 2025, the County and the San Mateo County Historical Association hosted a community event celebrating the 169th Anniversary of San Mateo County and a dedication ceremony for 500 County Center.  Costs for the event included food, refreshments, audio-visual, seating, printed material, and logistical event support. Costs were covered by donations to the San Mateo County Historical Association, who also made in kind contributions.  The County donated space at 500 County Center for the event.

Although the donations for the two events were not made directly to the County of San Mateo and may not therefore strictly be considered gifts to the County, the County did play a significant role in hosting the events and derived benefit from them.  As a result, staff recommends that the Board take formal action to acknowledge the above donations totaling $33,434.

The County Attorney’s Office has reviewed and approved the resolution as to form.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no County cost associated with the acknowledgement of the donations.
