RECOMMENDATION:
title
Adopt a resolution authorizing an agreement with Teja Bedi, Inc., dba MedOnc, Inc. to provide professional oncology/hematology services, for the term of September 1, 2020 through August 31, 2022, in an amount not to exceed $1,200,000.
body
BACKGROUND:
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population. This includes services for oncology disorders and the management and supervision of those services. The County’s need for these services is increasing due to the aging of its patient population.
DISCUSSION:
Dr. Bedi, through her professional corporation, will continue to provide inpatient hematology and oncology consults, in addition to clinical services and clinical management of the infusion center, thus improving referral pathways from primary care to specialists. Dr. Bedi will also serve as the Medical Director of Hematology and Oncology and will provide call coverage.
County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.
The agreement and resolution have been reviewed and approved by County Counsel as to form. This agreement is late in coming to your Board due to prolonged negotiations with the contractor.
The resolution contains the County’s standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).
The agreement contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Healthy Community by providing San Mateo County residents access to hematology and oncology services. It is anticipated that Contractor will complete 4,372 SMARTT RVU work units per annum.
