Recommendation for appointments to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual Plus (LGBTQIA+) Commission:

 

A)                     David Crafts, for an initial full term ending June 30, 2028; and

 

B)                     Jane Howard, for an initial partial term ending June 30, 2026; and

 

C)                     Camille Kennedy, for an initial partial term ending June 30, 2026.

BACKGROUND:                     

The LGBTQIA+ Commission reports and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors regarding policies, programs, procedures and legislation affecting LGBTQIA+ individuals in San Mateo County, and provides outreach and support to at-risk and underserved LGBTQIA+ populations within San Mateo County, including youth, communities of color, non-English speakers, older adults, and immigrants. The Commission promotes transgender inclusion among private and public entities in San Mateo County, including access to health care and to gendered spaces such as bathrooms and shelters. It develops initiatives to support LGBTQIA+ families with children in San Mateo County and provides a public forum for input from the LGBTQIA+ community to identify unmet needs.

 

DISCUSSION:

David Crafts (they/them) are being recommended to serve an initial full term, a seat formerly held by Jane Rickerson whose term ended June 30, 2025 and opted not to continue serving. Jane Howard (she/her) is being recommended to serve an existing partial term ending June 30, 2026 on a seat formerly held by Kevin Babeaux who resigned. Camille Kennedy (she/they) is being recommended to serve an existing partial term ending June 30, 2026 on a seat formerly held by Aaron Adriano whose resigned due to moving out of California.

 

David Crafts and their husband live in Redwood City. David works for the College of San Mateo as their Dean of Enrollment and Title IX Coordinator. In their work with CSM, they are a member of their LGBTQ+ Advisory Council and has contributed to the San Mateo County Pride Prom in 2024 & 2025. They are very excited to be part of the SMC LGBTQIA+ Commission.

 

A proud resident of District 4, Jane Howard lives in Menlo Park. She works in the area of engineering and received her undergraduate degree from University of California Santa Barbara. During her college experience, she was involved with LGBTQIA+ student activism and was a member of the Undergraduate Diversity & Inclusion in Physics group. She hopes to contribute to the LGBTQIA+ Commission with her experience in grassroots organizing and deep interest in human rights.

 

Camille Kennedy has extensive experience in fundraising and philanthropy for the community in the South Bay and here in San Mateo County. She has served on commissions for the city of Menlo Park and as a board member for Good Karma Bikes and the Wender Weis Foundation for Children. Camille lives in Menlo Park with her family and is excited to serve on the LGBTQIA+ Commission for San Mateo County.
