BACKGROUND:

The Sheriff’s Office has provided contract law enforcement services to the Town of Portola Valley for approximately seven years. Contracting with the Sheriff’s Office has proven to be a cost effective and efficient option for the Town. The most recent contract between the County and the Town expired on June 30, 2025. The Town desires to continue contracting with the County for these services through June 30, 2026.

 

DISCUSSION:

Services under the agreement include basic police patrol, traffic enforcement, crime investigations, and crime prevention services. Direct and indirect costs associated with delivering these services are also included. On an annual basis during the term of the agreement, the Sheriff’s Office will meet with the Town to evaluate the contract and determine if there are any amendments necessary to address changes in costs, fees, or services.

 

The County Attorney has reviewed and approved the resolution and agreement as to form.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This agreement is for a one-year term commencing July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. The County will receive reimbursement in the amount of $2,339,626 for services provided in FY 2025-26 with revised calculated rates effective July 1 of each year of the term. Reimbursement for this contract has been included in the Sheriff’s Office FY 2025-26 budget, and as such, there is no change to net county cost.
