BACKGROUND:
The Department of Public Works (Department) is responsible for pest control management for County maintained properties to ensure a safe, healthy, and pest-free environment. These services include routine inspections, treatments, and emergency response for pest infestations.
DISCUSSION:
The Department recommends waiving the Request for Proposals process and utilizing the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing agreement with Orkin Services of California, Inc (Orkin). Sourcewell has competitively solicited and awarded pest control services with pricing that has been pre-negotiated to provide competitive rates. Orkin has agreed to honor the established pricing under the Sourcewell agreement for all pest control services provided to the Department.
The Department has included $30,000 for the term of the agreement for ancillary services including bed bugs, wildlife traps, fire ants, stinging pest traps, and mosquito services.
The County Attorney has reviewed and approved the resolution and agreement as to form.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
Pest control services for County facilities have a direct impact on public health, fiscal responsibility, and community trust. The facilities include essential public-facing spaces, and professional pest management ensures that vital services remain safely accessible without risking exposure to disease vectors or structural hazards. By prioritizing proactive pest control the County is protecting public infrastructure from costly structural damage and continuing its commitment to providing safe, equitable, and welcoming environments.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total maximum fiscal obligation is $305,000 for the term of July 1, 2026 through March 5, 2029. Funding for this Agreement is included in the Facilities, Maintenance & Operations Budget for FY 2026-27 and 2027-28 and will be included in future fiscal year budgets.
There is no impact to the General Fund.
