body

BACKGROUND:

Measure K is the half-cent general sales tax initially approved by San Mateo County voters in November 2012 and extended in November 2016 for a total of thirty years.

The Board of Supervisors (Board) held study sessions on Measure K expenditures and approved funds for the fiscal year (FY) 2024-25 budget cycle, divided equally among the five supervisorial districts, for one-time district-discretionary needs and projects. District 3 has submitted a request to use their district-discretionary Measure K funds as shown below and described in the Project Summary section of this memorandum:

District/Project

Amount

District 3 (Supervisor Mueller) - Provide funding to the San Mateo County Parks Department for the purchase and installation of a kiosk-style sign at the Ahni Trailhead in Pacifica

$10,000

This item is consistent with the criteria for district-discretionary Measure K funds approved by the Board in December 2018.

PROJECT SUMMARY:

This is a request to authorize a transfer of funds from Non-Departmental Services to San Mateo County Parks Department, in an amount not to exceed $10,000, to purchase and install a kiosk-style sign at the Ahni Trailhead in Pacifica.

The City of Pacifica’s Open Space Parkland Advisory Committee requested that a sign be installed to address the current lack of signage at the Ahni Trailhead at Fassler Avenue in Pacifica. This sign would be crucial to communicating wayfinding along the trail, natural resources information, health and safety warnings related to trail usage, local events and resources, and other pertinent information to visitors to the Ahni Trail.

This kiosk-style sign will be enclosed with element-resilient plexiglass to withstand weather and wear and tear over time. The installation of the kiosk is to be completed by the San Mateo County Parks Department by January 2025, and it will be maintained by the Open Space Parkland Advisory Committee.

By approving this transfer of funds, the Board of Supervisors can affirm its commitment to providing communications to the public around healthy and safe recreation along trails and in parks and open spaces.

Total Measure K Request: Not to Exceed $10,000
