BACKGROUND:

The San Mateo County Event Center (“Event Center”), located in the City of San Mateo,  serves as an emergency evacuation center for San Mateo County residents, hosts conferences and conventions, and is the site of the San Mateo County Fair. The Event Center is managed by a non-profit organization, the San Mateo County Exposition and Fair Association (“Association”), whose Directors are appointed by the Board of Supervisors.

The Association’s Board of Directors (“Board of Directors”) consists of 11 Directors, all of whom must be residents of San Mateo County.  Directors are each allowed to serve up to four three-year terms.

DISCUSSION:

James Moore is being recommended to serve as a Director for a full term. This is a seat being vacated by Kari Foppiano at the end of her current final term’s end on September 30, 2024.

James Moore is the City Librarian for the City of San Mateo with over 20 years of experience in the field. He has led large projects, including facilities enhancement and targeted community outreach programming to reach underserved communities. Along with over fifteen years of public library experience (urban, suburban, and rural), James has substantial teaching experience as a community college librarian and at the university level. James serves as a board member of the Atkinson Family Foundation, an ex-officio member of the San Mateo Public Library Foundation Board, and a member of the College of San Mateo’s President’s Advisory Board. As someone who has worked with a Library Board for the past seven years, James brings a strong understanding of how to be a positive, supportive board member to the Event Center Board.
