RECOMMENDATION:

title

Adopt a resolution authorizing the President of the Board of Supervisors to execute an amendment with Crawford and Associates, Inc., for continued geotechnical investigations and geological hazard services to the San Mateo Medical Center Renovation Project, increasing the contract amount by $50,000 for a new not to exceed amount of $250,000.

BACKGROUND:

The San Mateo Medical Center Renovation Project is a multi-phase capital construction project that consists of demolition, ground up construction, renovation, and reconfiguration. Due to the various project components, when the project’s original geotechnical engineer of record left their previous company to join the firm Crawford and Associates, Inc., the Project Development Unit (PDU) was required by the State regulatory compliance agency, the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI), to keep the same engineer of record or re-establish the services with a new geotechnical team and resubmit all new compliance reports. The PDU recommended the County of San Mateo to move forward with enlisting Crawford and Associates, Inc. to avoid project delays.

DISCUSSION:

Since February 2020, Crawford and Associates, Inc. has been working with the Medical Center construction project team as the geotechnical engineers of record to move the project forward and has successfully assisted with geotechnical analysis and reports that have been reviewed and approved by HCAI.

Executing the amendment to the agreement with Crawford and Associates, Inc. and increasing the amount by $50,000 will allow for continued geotechnical services through project completion.

County Attorney has reviewed and approved the resolution and amendment as to form.

EQUITY IMPACT:

Geotechnical reports assist with obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the physical and geological characteristics of construction sites. This knowledge is crucial for the County of San Mateo to make more informed decisions during the design and construction phases and advances the mission of sustainability to reduce environmental impact.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The increase to the contract will be funded by the overall San Mateo Medical Center Renovation project budget currently funded by the 2018 Lease Revenue Bonds.

There is no impact to the General Fund.
