BACKGROUND:

California Government Code Section 25504 authorizes the Board of Supervisors to develop regulations authorizing the County Executive to dispose of surplus personal property belonging to the County. 

Thus, County Ordinance Code Section 2.83.130 (Disposal of Unneeded Personal Property) provides that, when personal property belonging to the County is, in the opinion of the County Executive, surplus and no longer needed by the County, the County Executive may dispose of such property and pay the proceeds received into the County Treasury.

 

Where the value of surplus personal property exceeds $10,000, the County Executive shall report such fact to the Board and obtain the Board’s approval prior to disposing of the property.

 

DISCUSSION:

The San Mateo County Fire Department (“Department”) is currently in possession of an ambulance/rescue vehicle with an estimated value of $10,000 to $12,000, as further described on Exhibit A attached hereto and incorporated by this reference (the “Surplus Property”), that is no longer needed by the Department.

 

As such, staff recommends that this Board accept the report of the Surplus Property and authorize its sale through public auction to the highest bidder pursuant to Ordinance Code Section 2.83.130.

 

COMMUNITY IMPACT:

Proceeds from the sale of the Surplus Property will be used by the Department to purchase future fire equipment for the benefit and protection of County residents.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:
