BACKGROUND:

The Coroner’s Office is required by statute to investigate and determine the cause and manner of death in all violent, sudden, or unusual deaths in San Mateo County.

To perform this statutory duty, the Coroner’s Office contracts with a vendor to provide a computerized case management system that enables comprehensive and effective management of cases, improve workflow efficiencies, ensures compliance with accreditation requirements, and enhances collaboration among staff members.

DISCUSSION:

On March 9, 2026, the Coroner’s Office released a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a computerized case management system and, after completing the RFP process, selected VertiQ Software LLC, which currently provides the case management system for the Coroner’s Office.

Staff recommends that the Board approve a new agreement with VertiQ Software LLC for the provision of the computerized case management system in an amount not to exceed $300,000 for a term of July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2031 (“Agreement”).

The County Attorney has reviewed and approved as to form the resolution and Agreement.
