BACKGROUND:
On February 2, 2022, the Information Services Department (ISD) released a Request for Proposals, RFP# ISD-20221854 for ongoing support, maintenance, and modifications to the San Mateo County Public Wi-Fi network. The County received one proposal in response to this RFP. The sole and successful proposer was Smartwave Technologies.

On August 1, 2023, the Board adopted Resolution No. 079867 authorizing an agreement with Smartwave Technologies to provide support, maintenance, and modification of the San Mateo County Public Wi-Fi network.

DISCUSSION:
The Information Services Department (ISD) is collaborating with the Department of Public Works on the Middlefield Road Improvement Project to deploy "smart street" technologies to improve visitor experience. These enhancements include expanding the San Mateo County Public Wi-Fi network (Wi-Fi network), smart parking, connected streetlights, digital signage and kiosks, smart trash bins and benches, traffic monitoring, and pedestrian analytics.

To support the expansion of the Wi-Fi network to the project area, ISD will need to install a fiber cable from the Fair Oaks Health Center to Middlefield Road.
