title

Recommendation to extend the partial terms of two recent appointees to the Commission on the Status of Women:

A)                     Ana Avendaño, extending initial partial term by six months, to end December 31, 2026; and

B)                     Michelle Stewart, extending initial partial term by six months, to end December 31, 2024.

body

BACKGROUND:

On February 27, 2024, the Board appointed Ana Avendaño and Michelle Stewart to the Commission on the Status of Women to complete partial terms created by the resignation of previous Board members.  The previous Board members’ terms were scheduled to end in June of the relevant termination year, so Ms. Avendaño and Ms. Stewart were appointed to fill terms ending in June of the relevant year.

DISCUSSION:

Pursuant to the Commission’s bylaws, Board terms should begin in January and end in December, not June.  To align the partial terms of Ms. Avendaño and Ms. Stewart with the Commission’s bylaws and the other Commission members’ terms, staff recommends the Board extend the partial term of Ms. Avendaño from ending on June 30, 2026 to ending on December 31, 2026; and to extend the partial term of Ms. Stewart from ending on June 30, 2024 to ending on December 31, 2024.

FISCAL IMPACT:

None.
