BACKGROUND:
The San Mateo County Navigation Center is a key component of the County's plan to make interim or permanent housing available to every unsheltered person who chooses assistance. Located in Redwood City, the center provides 240 non-congregate units with intensive support services.

On December 5, 2023, by Resolution No. 080061, the Board authorized a grant agreement with Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) DAF, an advised fund of Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF), accepting funds to support job training and dental services provided at the San Mateo County Navigation Center for the term October 1, 2023 to January 31, 2025, in an amount not to exceed $270,000.

DISCUSSION:
The grant agreement supports the Navigation Center's operations by contributing towards job training and oral health services available to residents and other unsheltered residents in the surrounding area. Half of the funds received pursuant to the agreement will be used by the Human Services Agency (HSA) to support an onsite, hands-on job training program, and the other half of the funds will be used by County Health to support the onsite dental clinic in providing services to all residents of the Navigation Center as well as unsheltered residents in the surrounding area.
