BACKGROUND:

On November 1, 2022, your Board approved Resolution No. 079281 authorizing the Sheriff to submit and execute a grant application for the FY 2023 State Homeland Security Grant Program (SHSGP) to the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES). 

 

On October 18, 2023, Cal OES approved San Mateo County’s grant application for the FY 2023 SHSGP in the amount of $785,321 to fund projects that will enhance the capabilities of local first responders, prevent terrorist attacks, and prepare for threats and hazards that pose a risk to the security of San Mateo County.

 

DISCUSSION:

The Sheriff’s Office is requesting this Board to approve an Appropriation Transfer Request (ATR) in the amount of $785,321 to establish expenditures and corresponding revenue from the FY 2023 UASI grant.  The funds will be utilized to improve San Mateo County’s capacity to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from terrorist incidents and catastrophic events.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

The FY 2023 SHSGP is for a term commencing September 1, 2023, through May 31, 2026.  There is no Net County Cost.
