BACKGROUND:
Dr. Trindade has been providing orthopedic services to patients at San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) since August, 2011 and has expressed interest in continuing to provide those services. During this time, Dr. Trindade has also provided medico-administrative services and leadership as SMMC's Medical Director for Orthopedics. Negotiations for renewal of his contract are continuing, which requires a further extension of his current agreement.
In January 2023, the County and Dr. Trindade entered into an agreement for orthopedic surgery services for the term of January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023 in an amount not to exceed $468,800.

DISCUSSION:
Under this amendment Dr. Trindade has agreed to continue providing orthopedic surgery services for two additional months through February 29, 2024, to allow extra time to negotiate a new agreement.

County Administrative Memorandum B-1 provides that contracts for physicians are exempt from the Request for Proposals process.

The amendment and resolution have been reviewed and approved by the County Attorney as to form.

The resolution contains the County's standard provisions allowing amendment of the County fiscal obligations by a maximum of $25,000 (in aggregate).
